John Tavares’s goal at 10:41 of the second overtime gave the Islanders a 2-1 win over Florida, knocking out the Panthers and seizing his team’s first playoff series win since they played in something called the “Patrick Division.”

How long is that? The last time the Islanders shook hands with a vanquished foe at the end of a playoff series, Jaromir Jagr was in the handshake line. Tonight?

Oh.

Anyway, Tavares also scored the goal that forced overtime with less than a minute remaining in regulation. The Islanders will face Tampa Bay in the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
